The standards-based materials below were developed by the NCDPI World Languages TeamLinks to an external site. and other educators across the state for use by individual teachers, departments, charter schools, districts, etc. for the 2010 NC Standard Course of Study (SCoS) for World Languages to be used in K-12 classrooms through the 2024-2025 school year. They are being updated for the 2024 NC SCoS for World Languages based on the World Languages' Installation TimelineLinks to an external site. so that they will be ready for initial implementation in the 2025-2026 school year.

The three K-12 Bridging documents are designed as guides to help teachers and administrators create a strong K-12 sequence locally for the program(s) being offered:
K-12 Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) Bridging DocumentLinks to an external site. (Links to an external site.)where DL/I program languages are used to teach content, particularly at the K-5 or K-8 levels, and then move into Heritage Language and/or Modern Language courses for continuation at the secondary level; the Heritage I and II sequence is also featured in this bridging document
The Clarifying Objectives by Course Outcomes (COCOs or CO2s) documents are used for standards-based curriculum writing in North Carolina, which is done locally by individual, department, school, or district. These documents have been compiled from the proficiency charts with student outcomes in the 2010 NC SCoS for World LanguagesLinks to an external site.. They will be revised during the 2024-2025 school year to reflect the Proficiency Outcomes Document of the 2024 NC SCoS for World Languages.

These materials are downloadable as Word documents so that they can easily be used for curriculum writing and shared among colleagues for collaboration.
Each document also contains the language-specific course code(s) for the course as a reference.

The packets are comprised of information about the graphic organizers, a mini-lesson with several components including one or more Assessment Examples (AE), and the graphic organizer to be used in, or adapted for, the classroom.
There are a variety of websites with free online resources for one or more of the 18 World Languages taught in North Carolina that have been shared by educators, groups, organizations, and publications involved with World Language education.
