The three K-12 Bridging documents are designed as guides to help teachers and administrators create a strong K-12 sequence locally for the program(s) being offered:

• K-12 Classical World Languages Bridging Document Links to an external site. where languages like Ancient Greek or Latin, which are no longer any population's first language, are taught as a separate subject
• K-12 Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) Bridging Document Links to an external site. (Links to an external site.) where DL/I program languages are used to teach content, particularly at the K-5 or K-8 levels, and then move into Heritage Language and/or Modern Language courses for continuation at the secondary level; the Heritage I and II sequence is also featured in this bridging document
• K-12 Modern World Languages Bridging Document Links to an external site. (Links to an external site.) where the target language (alphabetic, logographic, or visual is taught as a separate subject
