Below is an annotated version of the article that relates to the Instructional Practice we identified in the previous step (Instructional Practice #1:  Teachers use high quality appropriately complex text as the center of instruction. There is a balance of informational and literary texts).  Read the article to gain an understanding of what standard and instructional strategy should be applied.

A close reading of an informational text is an instructional strategy that addresses specific standards and builds student mastery of skills.
