- See the Sound - Visual Phonics (STS-VP)
- STS-VP is a system of unique handshapes and written symbols that represent the sounds of English. This visual, kinesthetic tool supports language and literacy development for students in the areas of phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, and speech/oral language. This system is a tool that is meant to be used with a comprehensive reading instruction program to support student learning and phonological awareness skills and is extremely beneficial to students who rely on a visual mode of communication. In this hands-on training, participants will be introduced to some of the theory and research on STS-VP, learn the handshapes and written symbols, and practice blending. Participants will discuss the considerations for students who are deaf and hard of hearing, complete homework assignments, and collaborate with each other on ways to implement STS-VP into lesson plans. If you are interested in this training opportunity, please email Nancy Woytowich.
