Module 10 - The Interwar Period and the Great Depression (1920s-1930s)
According to historians Douglas Abrams and Randall Parker , “The Great Depression in North Carolina caused immeasurable hardship for a large percentage of citizens and, by way of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal programs, brought the federal government into the lives of average North Carolinians more than ever before, fundamentally changing the relationship between individuals and government.” In this module students will trace the experiences of people in North Carolina through the boom times of the Roaring ‘20s and the economic distress of the Great Depression in the 1930s. Students will learn about the causes of the Great Depression and government responses to the depression, including the New Deal programs of President Franklin Roosevelt. |
