This resource provides a unique teaching and learning tool for the 8th grade course, North Carolina and the United States: Creation and Development of the State and Nation.

The course design aligns with the inquiry design model of the C3 Framework and references ANCHOR, NCpedia's online resource, and is designed to address the North Carolina Essential Standards for Social Studies.

Teachers are encouraged to adapt resources to the specific needs of their students.  The aim is for students to develop substantive content knowledge about the history of North Carolina as it relates to the larger history of the United States and the world.  As students read and analyze primary and secondary sources, they will develop historical thinking skills.
