Introduction to Supporting Question 1
In North Carolina the economic prosperity of the 1920s led to the growth of urban areas, including Asheville, Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, Burlington, and High Point. This growth was spurred by an increase in productivity and manufacturing in textiles, furniture making, and tobacco processing. As a result, there were improvements in the state’s roads, education and health care. Nonetheless, prosperity was uneven in the state, with marked differences between the rural and urban areas.
