This Canvas course is directed to those interested in learning about the English Language Development Standard Course of Study. This course provides an overview as well as an in-depth, close reading of the standards. The range of tasks offers users an opportunity to determine their own specific needs and follow a path that is suited to their understanding and specific direction.

We support you in your quest for clarification and deeper understanding of the NC ELD Standard Course of Study! NCDPI does not offer literacy credits and/or CEUs for this self-study work, please contact your local district regarding any CEU credits. As proof of completion, present your ELD SCOS Self-Study Learning Checklist to your LEA.

The entire Canvas course takes approximately 20 hours to complete should the participant complete all the activities and tasks. Within each module, participants may engage with content, explore additional resources and applications, and expand thinking through off-line collaborations. We offer activities, informative slides, robust resources, and instructional videos. Should the participant complete all the items in the course, it is equivalent to approximately 20 contact hours or 2.0 CEUs. Keep in mind, course completion requirements and the number of contact hours awarded are LEA decisions. Though this could certainly be used by individuals, we strongly encourage users to use this within a PLC (Professional Learning Community) as discussion and interaction would certainly enrich the experience.

Course Learning Objectives:

Participants will describe the framework and organization of the NC ELD Standard Course of Study.
Participants will connect the NC ELD standards to NC content standards of English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Participants will evaluate and reflect on the impact of the major revisions to the adopted standards.
Participants will identify and reflect on how to use the NC ELD Standard Course of Study in planning units.

ELD SCOS Self-Study Learning Checklist

NCDPI does not offer literacy credits and/or CEUs for this self-study work. There are many ways to collect evidence of your time and work in this course. We offer the ELD Course Checklist as one way to check off progress through the modules. Using your work in the Engage or Expand stages for each module, link artifacts as requested in the Checklist. Educators who wish to be awarded CEU credits should contact their district office. Educators should present their completed ELD Standard Course of Study Self-Study Learning Checklist for proof of completion to their LEA.
