Course Syllabus
Course Description and Purpose
Designing Aligned Instruction is directed to those interested in learning more about standards alignment; selecting appropriately complex texts; matching texts to standards; developing aligned questions, tasks, and activities; and creating aligned assessments.

This Canvas course takes approximately 20 hours to complete. NCDPI does not offer literacy credits and/or CEUs for this work; please contact your local district regarding any CEU credits.
Course Learning Objectives
- Participants will identify the aspects of aligned instruction.
- Participants will select an appropriately complex text for their grade levels and match them to appropriate grade-level standards.
- Participants will determine additional standards to integrate for targeted instruction.
- Participants will develop text-dependent questions and activities to bring readers to an understanding of their selected texts.
- Participants will develop culminating tasks to assess students' progression towards standards-mastery as well as knowledge of the text.
- Participants will develop supports for students to allow opportunities to engage with grade-level text.

- Teachers use a variety of methods to assess what each student has learned.
