The transition to the new millennium again marked a time of great changes for North Carolina. Buffeted by changes in technology and globalization, people in the state grappled with shifting economic, political and social contexts. Again, progress has been uneven in the state.  The struggle for civil rights and environmental protections continued to be issues of concern. In this module students will focus on understanding the political landscape of the state (unique for the popularity of both parties), economic challenges confronting the state, and contemporary environmental and civil rights issues.
