Compelling Questions: Should North Carolinians have been revolutionary? |
Supporting Question 4: What were the experiences of soldiers during the war? |
Introduction
By now students are probably familiar with notions of a rag-tag colonial army taking on the British “Red Coat (troops).” Here students are encouraged to interrogate the David vs Goliath narrative of combat during the American Revolution to compare British and colonial experiences in battle. Students will also learn about important battles that occurred in North Carolina during the Revolution. One battle was waged between American patriots and loyalists, the Battle of Kings Mountain (1780), and another, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse (1781), inflicted massive casualties on the British.
