Module 13 - The Civil Rights Movement (1945 - 1970)
Historians now refer to the “long civil rights movement” in the United States, with some tracing its origins to the abolition movement of the 1830s. In this module, students will focus on the civil rights movement in the US and in North Carolina after World War II through the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. By taking this long view, students are encouraged to examine the long struggle for civil liberties from both a national and state perspective. Of course, this struggle continues through the 1980s to today (see modules 14-15). |
