Introduction to Supporting Question 1

The “Cold War” refers to the period following World War II, marked by military and political tension, particularly between the United States and USSR.  Referred to as a “cold” war because war was never officially declared between the two countries, it would be a mistake to assume this era was peaceful or free from military clashes.
