Below are some ideas for connecting the information in the module to your life as an active citizen in North Carolina:

  • Volunteer at a local shelter helping people who are struggling economically (eg. homeless shelter). Write a reflection about your experience including an answer to the question of if the government is doing enough for the people you helped.
  • Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper/magazine/news website about the issue of the government’s role in helping people who are poor.
  • Participate in/organize a local school supply drive at your school to help students whose families may not be able to afford such supplies. Write a reflection about your experience including an answer to the question of if the government is doing enough for the people you helped.
