Introduction
North Carolinians, like the rest of the nation, celebrated the end of World War I and the return of soldiers from combat zones. This section examines the excitement of homecoming parades and Armistice Day celebrations. It also provides evidence of the negative effects of war including “Shell Shock”, which we now refer to as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and racial tensions that flared during the interwar period.
