Introduction

Once the United States entered World War I, the people of North Carolina were drawn into the conflict not just as as soldiers, but also as family members of servicemen, volunteers and workers. Here students have an opportunity to learn about the variety of experiences and the ways in which the war touched almost all aspects of society. Propaganda posters from the period, provide insight about the cultural symbolism associated with the war.
