Supporting Question 3: What events marked the continued struggle for equal rights in North Carolina during this period? |
Introduction
“Fusion politics” (1894-1900) and the Wilmington Coup (1898, also referred to as the Wilmington Race Riots) were two examples of the continued struggle for equal rights in the state just before the turn of the 20th century. Taken alongside the struggle for women’s suffrage and equal access to education, students will need to understand the historical context of these events.
