How did agriculture continue to dominate the economy of North Carolina?

 


Introduction

Even with all the changes that the industrial revolution brought about agriculture continued to dominate the economy of North Carolina. Cash crops such as cotton and peanuts eventually lost market share to “King Tobacco”, which came to dominate North Carolina farming.  Here students will study the history of agriculture in North Carolina, with a specific focus on the experiences of farmers and tobacco factory workers.
