Introduction

In this section of the module, students should be given ample time to explore the wide variety of resources describing the Civil War and the experiences of soldiers and private citizens. Of course, the war brought turmoil to the state in terms of human and economic costs. The most vulnerable people during the time were the poor, displaced or formerly enslaved peoples of North Carolina who became refugees during the war.
