Below are some ideas for connecting the information in the module to your life as an active citizen in North Carolina:

  • Write a letter to your Congressperson/people and describe to them how the US government could do a better job of working for them people. Use historical evidence to explain the why it is important that they do so.
  • Visit your representative in the General Assembly of North Carolina. Ask them how they look out for all the people they represent, not just the majority. Provide them historical evidence of what can happen if all people, including minorities, are not considered.
  • Create a video describing the ways that that government failed in it’s duties during this time period and emphasizing what we should learn from those failures today. Upload the video to an internet video site.
