Module 4 - Active Citizen Engagement
Active Citizen Engagement
Below are some ideas for connecting the information in the module to your life as an active citizen in North Carolina:
- Collect examples from contemporary newspaper articles about some of the same topics/issues raised during the American revolution, including freedom of speech, right to political representation, citizenship, freedom of the press, peaceful protest, and the ability to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Reflect on: How are the issues raised by revolutionaries still relevant today? How do we continue to define and understand these freedoms?
- Attend a local protest about an issue related to the topics of this module. Write a reflection on your experiences at the protest comparing it to revolutionaries.
- Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper/magazine/news website comparing an issue today to a similar issue during the American Revolution. Acknowledge the progress that has been made and suggest ways that we can still improve.
