Introduction to Supporting Question 4
African slaves were brought into the colony along with early settlers. By 1740 larger numbers were kidnapped and sold into slavery in the colony to work on plantations. There are records that some of these slaves were practicing Muslims at the time of their capture. This supporting question encourages students to consider the experiences of colonists in North Carolina brought against their will.
