Introduction to Supporting Question 2
A variety of European groups settled in the northern portions of the Carolina Colony, including the Scots-Irish and Moravians. Carolina was predominately an agrarian colony. According to Powell, at one time it was considered the “breadbasket” of the colonies (p.43).
This supporting question encourages students to consider the varied experiences of colonists in North Carolina and the factors that led them to the colony. Students must consider the socio-cultural ramifications of this intersection of cultures and the way it which it influenced the growth and politics of the colony.
