Module 3 - Active Citizen Engagement
Active Citizen Engagement
Below are some ideas for connecting the information in the module to your life as an active citizen in North Carolina:
- This module demonstrated the important role of geographic context in the lives of North Carolinians. Examine census data from North Carolina today. How are geographic differences still playing out in terms of economic wealth. (Visit: https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/nc Links to an external site. (Links to an external site) and select > "map" > click on the shape of NC > and then “counties”.)
- Contact the US Secretary of State. Explain to them what you think our relationship with Britain should be today. Describe the relationship we used to have with them and if/how it has changed.
- Find a local article about people acting against the government (eg. protests) and write a letter to the editor of the article discussing if what the people are doing is appropriate and how it compares to the history of North Carolinians being “poor citizens”.
