Below are some ideas for connecting the information in the module to your life as an active citizen in North Carolina:

  • Research the status of Indigenous groups currently in North Carolina. Contact the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs and describe the impact that colonization had on one of those groups and how we can better acknowledge that impact. Make at least one suggestion about an action that the Commission should take.
  • Identify a list of civic groups active in the indigenous community in North Carolina. Volunteer time to help one of them near you.
  • Visit a local colonial historic site or museum with a group and explain to them how colonization still impacts the lives of North Carolinians today.
