  • What evidence do historians and archeologists have about the existence of the Lost Colony? Describe key aspects of the historical record.
  • Based on your reading, what is your hypothesis about what happened to the colonists? What corroborating evidence would you seek to support your hypothesis?
  • Some of these documents trace the interest in the mystery of the Lost Colony during the 19th century (for example the Virginia Dare marker) and the 20th century (for example the Lost Colony drama). Why do you think this history is so compelling? What messages/narratives do contemporary audiences draw from the story of the Lost Colony?
