One-Stop Shop: Refresher on the SS Standards & Supports and Onboarding Materials for Teachers New NC SS Classrooms Links to an external site. | Participants will gain a greater understanding of the standards and objectives for the newly adopted social studies standards. In addition to basic terms and ideas surrounding objectives, we will also cover helpful resources and materials. This session is recommended for beginning teachers and/or teachers new to teaching social studies in North Carolina. |

Since the American History I and II courses have been condensed into one course, teachers need to make decisions about what concepts and topics will help them cover the needed material in a timely fashion in alignment with the new standards. | |
Teaching the Standards for Founding Principles: Civic Literacy Links to an external site. | This professional development has been developed into a four-part mini-series. This PD will focus on ideas, activities, resources, and best practice strategies for teaching the Civic Literacy course. Special attention will be given to supporting the 13 specific subjects outlined in the Founding Principles legislation that created this class. Additionally, the sessions in the series will share ideas for teaching the new geography and behavioral sciences strands. |

The primary focus will be to help districts struggling to meet the goals of the statewide literacy mandates while simultaneously advancing the teaching of Social Studies in the K-5 classroom. | |

The October 2023 "Spotlight on EPF Webinar” will help to enhance the teaching of the Economics and Personal Finance (EPF) course. It will offer an opportunity for teachers to interact with educators who will share instructional strategies and how they utilize vetted teaching materials to make EPF lessons engaging and meaningful for students. This session showcases teachers from Guilford County Schools who currently teach the EPF course, along with an EPF Specialist in Guilford County Schools. | |

The second webinar in the series showcased teachers in North Carolina who teach financial literacy by integrating it into their content. The session also featured leaders from EVERFI, which offers no-cost, standards-aligned personal finance and economic materials that have been featured at past EPF summer professional developments. |
