The NCDPI professional learning opportunities below are developed by the NCDPI World Languages Team Links to an external site. and other educators. In addition, the professional organizations that serve North Carolina's World Language educators are also featured.

PL Standards Installation.png

The 2024-2025 school year is the Installation phase for the new 2024 Standard Course of Study (SCoS) for World Languages, which we will begin implementing in K-12 classrooms in 2025-2026. Links to an external site.

Please see the Standards Installation page with information about professional learning sessions, either to register for upcoming events or to access the archived materials for local use in PLCs, PLTs, or other PD organized by PSU coordinators, department heads, curriculum directors, etc.

The three self-paced Canvas courses listed here have been designed for World Language educators and their colleagues. They are featured on the NCDPI World Languages Professional Learning page and in this Canvas hub.

  • CAST for World Languages - Closing out at the end of July 2024 so that it can be updated with information about the new state standards and the changes to the policy for the Global Languages Endorsement (GLE), North Carolina's Seal of Biliteracy
  • DL/I Blue Book Study - Closing out in July 2024 to be archived but will remain available in Instructure's Canvas Commons to download and use locally
  • Introduction to LinguaFolio
PDFLANC.png The Foreign Language Association of North Carolina Links to an external site. or FLANC is NC's K-20 World Language professional organization. FLANC provides two professional development conferences each year, regional ShareFests, the Catalyst newsletter, Teacher of the Year awards, various scholarships and grants, etc.

The Southern Conference on Language Teaching Links to an external site. or SCOLT is the Southeast's K-20 World Language professional organization. SCOLT serves over a dozen states in the Southeast, plus the Virgin Islands, and provides a spring professional development conference each year, the SCOLTalk newsletter and the Dimension journal, regional Teacher of the Year awards, various scholarships and grants, etc.

The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Links to an external site. or ACTFL is the United States' K-20 World Language professional organization. ACTFL provides a fall professional development conference each year, a variety of Special Interest Groups or SIGs, The Language Educator magazine and the Foreign Language Annals journal, national Teacher of the Year awards, various scholarships and grants, etc.
