The 2024-2025 school year is the Installation phase for the new 2024 Standard Course of Study (SCoS) for World Languages, which we will begin implementing in K-12 classrooms in 2025-2026.

Please see the professional learning sessions below, either to register for upcoming for upcoming events or to access the archived materials for local use in PLCs, PLTs, or other PD organized by PSU coordinators, department heads, curriculum directors, etc. Everyone is welcome to download the slide decks and activities for local professional development offerings.

Some sessions will be provided with an asynchronous completion option, and details are below about those options.


Standards Update Webinar Series

The 2024-2025 World Languages Standards Update Webinar Series is comprised of the four broadcasts listed below. All World Language educators are welcome, and the registration links are below and on the flyer at https://go.ncdpi.gov/WLwebinars24-25 Links to an external site. that can be shared with others. Participants in the live broadcasts will earn a Certificate of Attendance. Educators who were not able to attend can see the archives when they are posted for an asynchronous option to earn a Certificate of Completion.

Standards Implementation Train-the-Trainer Workshop Series

The World Language Standards Implementation Workshops are designed as a train-the-trainer series that will consist of a morning session (8:30-11:30 am) focused on the new standards and the updated support tools for their implementation, and an afternoon session (12:30-3:30 pm) dedicated to planning with the new standards, networking with other teachers, coaches, administrators, etc. in the region, and integrating the Literacy Instruction Standards (LIS) into World Language courses and programs.

Notes:

  • Registration will allow participants to indicate whether they are signing up for the 6-hour option with both sessions or one of the 3-hour sessions (morning or afternoon) depending on their needs.
  • There are 50 seats at each location to ensure that every Public School Unit (PSU), or district and charter school, can send a representative as their trainer. If your PSU representative would like to attend in a different region due to the date or location, please submit those details on the regional registration form where they would like to participate. A waiting list will be created to accommodate these transfer requests as space is available.

The World Language Standards Implementation Workshops will be in-person and offered in each of the eight regions of the state (see map below) from late February - early April, 2025.
