Professional Learning Booklet for 2022-2023 

The NCDPI LinguaFolio Team has designed the Professional Learning Booklet for language educators as an asynchronous learning opportunity that may be completed during the school year. This self-paced PD Booklet is worth 10 contact hours. Participants read the information, watch the videos, complete the activities, and submit a survey to receive a certificate of completion.

Semester I: LinguaFolio Biography Components

The Biography is a record of personal language-learning history that helps learners to set goals and reflect on their language learning and intercultural experiences. The Language Biography Components, now available in 13 languages include:

  • How Do I Learn?
  • Intercultural Encounter Reflection
  • Intercultural Experience Summary
  • Language Activities
  • Learning Inventory
  • Progress Report

The Professional Learning Booklet for the 2022 - 2023 PD includes the #GoOpenNC group, LinguaFolio for North Carolina Links to an external site., where the Apply & Reflect discussions Links to an external site. on the Biography components are housed. Anyone can join the conversation at any time!

Semester II: Introduction to LinguaFolio

Course Learning Objectives:

  1. The learner will understand the purposes of LinguaFolio and how this formative assessment tool helps language learners.
  2. The learner will reflect on how to implement LinguaFolio in their language learning environment(s), including dual language/immersion, English as a Second Language (ESL), heritage language, and world language.
  3. The learner will analyze how LinguaFolio can impact them as lifelong language learners and education professionals.

Professional Learning Opportunities for NC Educators 

The NCDPI LinguaFolio Team provides Local Education Agencies (LEA) with support related to using LinguaFolio to implement the World Language and ELD standards, curriculum, and instruction. The NCDPI LinguaFolio Team is unable to provide face-to-face professional development to individual school systems or charters; however, the NCDPI LinguaFolio Team is able to provide technical assistance via virtual consultation on specific information and resources that may be helpful to your professional development team.
